Reflection for SULAM Project: Innovate Education With ChatGPT

Greetings, readers! I'm Wong Yi Fei, a second-year Data Science student from University Malaya with matric number 22057321/1, embarking on a unique journey filled with challenges, growth, and a quest for enhancing thinking and communication skills.

Our Sulam Project: Innovate Education With ChatGPT

The SULAM Project is one of the criteria for this Thinking and Communication Skills course. SULAM, which stands for Service Learning Malaysia - University for Society, is a comprehensive idea that encompasses both co-curricular and curricular methods of providing service and learning opportunities.

Our group consists of me, Sim Yi, Bong, Michelle, Pep Yang, Soon Jit and Vinnie. We are group 4 from OCC 5. Our team has decided to host a workshop on ChatGPT after giving it some serious thought. While using ChatGPT has grown ubiquitous among college students, not everyone knows how to use it properly. Thus, our objective is to offer a venue where students may discover the proper and efficient methods for maximising ChatGPT usage during the session.

My Role (Application of Skills)

I'm leading the partnership efforts in my crucial role, enticing possible partners to enhance our ChatGPT workshop. I'm aggressively promoting the event on a number of social media channels with a strong emphasis on outreach, using compelling material to draw in viewers. When I create a segment of the presentation slides, I make sure the content is interesting and educational as well as informative, promoting a thorough learning process. In conclusion, I am accountable for evaluating the effectiveness of our workshop by means of thorough reporting, scrutinising participant input and metrics, with the goal of improving subsequent versions and demonstrating the concrete advantages of our joint endeavours.

What I learned throughout the course

Development of Communication Skills: Promoting the programme and working in teams greatly improved my communication abilities. I gained insight into the subtleties of strong and convincing communication through reaching out to possible partners and sharing ideas within the team. The need of communicating the goals and advantages of our ChatGPT workshop became apparent.

Teamwork Proficiency: Working on this project underscored the importance of teamwork. Collaborating with diverse individuals highlighted the power of collective ideas and the synergy that emerges when different perspectives converge towards a common goal. I developed a keen understanding of team dynamics, learning to navigate challenges and leverage the strengths of each team member.

Significance of publicity: Coordinating the publicity for the session highlighted how important it is to use strategic communication to reach our intended audience. I learned how important it is to customise messages for target audiences while creating content for different social media sites. The experience brought to light the critical role that marketing strategies play in project execution by demonstrating the enormous impact that effective publicity can have on event success and participation.

Strength

Effective Teamwork and Communication: During the training, I was able to demonstrate my strength in teamwork and communication. I made sure that communication was transparent and open-minded, and that ideas were shared, understood, and easily incorporated into the team's operations. The cornerstones of our cooperative efforts were clear communication and active listening, which created a space where everyone felt respected and heard. This strength improved overall productivity by promoting a positive team environment and facilitating more seamless teamwork.

Weakness 

Propensity for Carelessness: Even though I had excellent communication skills, I admit that I was a little irresponsible at times. This occasionally showed up as mistakes, such missing information in project documentation or committing preventable mistakes. I deliberately worked on putting procedures in place to mitigate this vulnerability because I realised how these mistakes affected the accuracy of the project. To combat my tendency towards carelessness, I found that it was essential to include comprehensive review procedures and double-check my work. My goal is to improve general accuracy and attention to detail in my future endeavours.

Reflection

When I think back on the SULAM project, I'm proud to say that our workshop was successful. It was an impressive accomplishment to get 51 participants, especially in light of the schedule and format changes we had to make. Although there were some difficulties in moving to an online format, the workshop went well, encouraging audience engagement and questions. The affirmative responses we received were especially fulfilling.

To sum up, working on the SULAM project was a really rewarding experience. In spite of the difficulties and time investment, I am grateful for the soft skills I have developed and the deeper understanding I have gotten of AI technologies such as ChatGPT. I am excited about the prospect of planning a physical workshop in the future. Having face-to-face meetings with participants would allow for a more intimate relationship and more efficient tracking of their progress in learning.
